One to One Play Therapy
Supporting children to explore difficult life experiences and emotions

Play Therapy gives children a safe space where they can explore any feelings or events that may be difficult for them. A wide range of play materials are available in the playroom for your child to use to express themselves, these include; art materials, small figures, sand, puppets and musical instruments.
This permissive environment, combined with the accepting and non-judgmental relationship that is developed, provides the right conditions for the child to freely express themselves and work through their emotional difficulties.
Play therapists have extensive training in child development, attachment and how to communicate with children through the language of play. I work closely with families, and with permission, children’s schools in order to gain a greater understanding of the reasons for coming to Play Therapy. Through regular communication and looking at your child’s strengths and difficulties, I can gain a greater understanding of individual situations in order to help your child make sense of their feelings and experiences.

Play Therapy sessions take place weekly, at the same time and on the same day, in a consistent setting. A minimum of 12-18 sessions is recommended, however some children may require a longer-term intervention.

Play therapy sessions are confidential, it is another element of the therapeutic relationship that helps your child to trust their therapist and feel safe to express themselves, just as an adult would with a counsellor or therapist. However, the play therapist will work closely with parents in regular reviews to discuss progress and general themes in the play. If a play therapist has concerns that there is a safeguarding issue, they are required to share those concerns with the appropriate authorities. However, these concerns will usually be shared with parents first.

Play Therapy sessions can take place at your child’s school with their agreement.
